A Bite-Sized Cottage full of depth and personality
Meet Plum Cottage
When our clients first reached out about their charming cottage-style bungalow in central Seattle, they were looking to renovate only the kitchen. But as we began discussing how they lived and what they needed from their home, the project naturally expanded into a full-home project. The updated scope included designing and building out thoughtful storage solutions in both the dining room and primary bedroom to make the home more functional day to day.
From the beginning, the vision was clear: to design a cozy and comfortable space that evoked the feeling of a classic English library, the kind you might stumble upon in Cambridge or Oxford. It was a brief we immediately fell in love with. We thought, why not quite literally transform the dining room into a library, complete with built-ins for storage, and pair it with a moody, character-rich kitchen that reflects that same atmosphere?
Because of the home’s intimate scale and open sight-lines, several rooms are visible at once, making it essential that each space flow naturally into the next. While the interiors feel layered and lived-in rather than minimal, the palette remains cohesive, concise, and calming.
The clients also share a deep affection for shades of aubergine and plum, which became a guiding element throughout the design. In some spaces, the color takes center stage; in others, it appears more subtly through accessories, patterns, and textiles that connect the palette from room to room.
